Be Soft

My parents have been dead a long time. Or not so long. It depends on my mood, how long it seems. My mom died in April 2007, my dad in January 1993. I often wonder what advice they would give me now, about being childless, being disabled and in chronic pain and  often frustrated and depressed. Then, by chance, today I came across a quote that spells out what I know in my heart they would both say to me so perfectly, it gave me chills. In fact, I can hear my mom’s voice…

Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.

  1. Barbara your photographs are just breathtaking! I lost my mom 13 years ago and my dad this past June. I was extremely close to my mom and miss her still, after all these years. Your work is amazing, I’m sure it brings you some peace. Continue bringing such joy to this scary and sad world. There is still so much good in it!

    1. Debra, I am so sorry you lost your dad so recently…isn’t it funny, that no matter how old we get, we are never ready to lose our parents? It is so hard. But thanks so much for your encouragement and support! I love the idea of bringing joy to the world, and I agree completely that there is still much good in it! xoxo

  2. The beauty you create Barbara is the testimony of your hope! And you bring hope to others when your share your story. So wonderful. I hope you know you don’t need to walk through this alone. You have a Savior who loves you dearly. He is especially fond of you! I know because He has walked with me through my journey of pain over the years. Peace to you Barbara.
